Buckles & Bits | 1920s Belt Buckle & Silverware Bits #5121
Our collection of upcycled double‑strand statement necklaces (called Buckles & Bits) has become one of my favorite creative rabbit holes. Each piece pairs a vintage 1920s belt buckle with our signature upcycled silverware designs, creating a look that’s bold, elegant, and full of history.
I’d been wanting to build a bolder, earth‑toned statement necklace — something that let our vintage silverware play alongside warmer beads and deeper textures. And, as usual, the spark came from rummaging through one of my bins of antique treasures. I pulled out a fantastic old belt buckle and instantly thought, well hello, you’re definitely meant to be a necklace.
That buckle turned out to be a 1920s Giant Grip brand piece — one of the trademarks used by Samuel Buchsbaum & Co. of Chicago. According to the 1934 Keystone Jewelry Trademark Book, Buchsbaum was a prolific designer and inventor, filing patents for everything from belt buckles to anti‑friction shoe devices to hinged vanity boxes between 1915 and 1922.
So of course, we had to give his work a second life — revived, reimagined, and woven into the story of this collection, Laughing Frog Studio style.

For all of our designs we choose wonderful authentic vintage/antique silverware. Once chosen, the pieces are modified and beautified by HAND; they are cut, drilled, filed and polished, etc. We do not cast/mold any of our designs, they are all handmade, one-of-a-kind creations. All of our creations are handmade - as such no two items are exactly alike.
Condition: Please note, this is an antique item that was once used as a utensil. As a result, there may be some wear to the silver-plate, fine scratches or marks from use. But some wear gives the piece patina and personality. We do our best to disclose any condition issues of note.
